照耀你 is a remix of my 2005 composition, 'Shine On'. I translated my 2005 composition Shine On from English to Mandarin Chinese, remixed the accompaniment using GarageBand, traced and coloured a photo using Adobe Illustrator CS3 (my first time ever using Adobe Illustrator, which came with my purchase of Adobe CS3 Design Standard), and then made the video with the downloadable beta of Adobe Premiere Pro CS3. Hope you like it! — I especially enjoyed writing the exceedingly realistic bit of Anglo-Mando-Rap. (I think it is the most brilliant piece of Anglo-Mando-Rap in history, one would’ve thought it was produced by the robots working for one of the record companies or something! In one phrase I manage to rap the artists and the Olympics too – seriously I should get an A for how awfully realistic it is!!! “我但說無妨 寫你這首歌” Over a couple of hours in January-February 2007, I wrote a new song, “給你我的愛”. This is my second ever Chinese song (the first, “新的开始” was written some six years ago in January 2001) - again in Mandarin Chinese rather than my native Cantonese (so apologies for any wrong words/pronunciations!). It tells the story of two of my Sims' lives. I wrote the music and lyrics beginning on 26 January using a mixture of a keyboard, GarageBand and a chinese dictionary; terrorised my flatmates on Valentine’s Day by recording myself singing, and then videoed the life of two Sims in my SimCity for a day after that. Then, it was just a mixture of snap, crackle and pop (er, snip, cut and paste) using iMovie on 20 February - ready for a simultaneous 21 February release on podcast and various web video services. 給你我的愛 (林詩雋) Words, Music and Video Copyright © 2007 Si Chun Lam. Si Chun Lam - Raining A quick composition by Si Chun Lam. Garageband is awesome - it makes it possible for any idiot to churn out music and add ambient effects too ;-) In short, it makes anything sound much nicer. XD So here’s a quick one hour job. The longest part was actually thinking up some lyrics and as you can see I kinda gave up. Also, too bad I’m limited to Apple Loops at the moment. They’re not bad, but I need a MIDI keyboard here. XD. Watch this space - I’ve two more ideas in the works at the moment.

Shine On by Si Chun Lam 20050910-11 Words and Music Copyright © 2005 by Si Chun Lam. All rights reserved. A Beatles-inspired song about songwriting. I was rather stuck and just logged off my computer and about to leave when suddenly an idea sprung to mind. The burst of ideas came towards the end of three hours of rather unproductive tinkering around in the music room on Saturday afternoon. The song itself actually materialised between 10am and 11pm on Sunday.

Same Words and Music © 2001 Si Chun Lam. All rights reserved. 'Same' is a hopefully thought-provoking song; the lyrics sounds utopian, but in fact, that is not what I am hoping for. I try to stop people thinking that it is a view of utopia by the guitar chords I use. I am trying to bring out how everywhere you go people have the same wishes, and similar lives - which is both good and bad. The good things are obvious - we should not discriminate, we should not look down on others. The bad things are subtler - we have lost our diversity, everybody looks for money, and everybody will think the same, which will affect the way our world progresses in the future. This composition is for guitar, backed by a bass which starts in verse two, and possibly some drums, and string instruments entering later. Although I think it sounds very different, it is inspired by Coldplay's Trouble. 'I think for myself, but only because that's what everyone else tells me I should be doing.' 'We are all individuals, just like everyone else'

Lakes by the Clouds Words and Music © 2001-2003 Si Chun Lam. All rights reserved. Lakes by the Clouds is an attempt to use complex chords, contrasts, and a REAL key change in the piece. It's mostly in C minor and Eb major; uses varied and interesting textures set against [uhh] meaningful lyrics. This song started off on 20011122 when I was experimenting with developing my song October. I took one section of the violin accompaniment on that piece and built this piece on that. I chose to use a minor key, and developed a nice chord sequence and a varied way of playing the accompaniment... During the night I came across AFI's Morningstar (a comparatively quiet song by a punk rock band), and then somewhat decided to emulated the style of the lyrics. Other influences include AFI - God Called In Sick Today; chorus 1 unexpectedly sounds like Who Wants to be a Millionnaire, and chorus 2 is like Hoku's Nothing In This World... The 'new' section [2002] has modal influences, SC2K chords... Enjoy! Recorded at West Island School 20020419: Featuring Juhi Bansal - Vocals, Stephen Davenport - Guitar, Si Chun Lam - Vocal Harmony, Julianne Mark - Piano, Kit Yan Tang - Viola. Recorded at Parsons Music, Tung Chung 20030822: Si Chun Lam - Drum kit.

I've got some blogging to do Words and Music © 2004 Si Chun Lam. All rights reserved. The idea for a blogging song bubbled out of my head after listening to some of the comedy tracks. So then I thought - what about a blogging song? I doubt I'd be the first, but it's still something I should do. After all, it was something I spent a -err- non-negligible amount of time on. It was worth a song. So, then, I decided to write a song on my blogging experience. The lyrics are not entirely fictional - nor are they completely true; they are based on real events, though modified to fit a comedy song. Composed April-May 2004.

iReflect II Music © 1999-2003 Si Chun Lam. All rights reserved. iReflect II is a new version of 'iReflect' which I composed in November 1999. This song uses something I called iDrums which is basically 'reversed' drumming I heard in this Apple iBook advertisement. Then, I decided that the song was a bit boring, so I speeded it up and added some MoneyTree II inspired sequences to it to make it sound better. This is an updated recording of a song from Resort.

Words and Music © 2001-2003 Si Chun Lam. All rights reserved. A slow ballad, wishing for a better world... Let's face it. This world isn't paradise, and suffering seems inevitable. But, one thing is left: hope. A new millennium has arrived, giving us yet another reason to change our perceptions of the way things are, and make a better world. We've waited thousands of years for peace... This is a new beginning! This is an updated recording of a song from Sunny Seaside.
